Exotic visitor flies in
A giant Monarch butterfly has arrived in mid Wales
Wildlife experts in mid Wales are in a flutter over the sighting of a giant exotic butterfly more than 3,000 miles from its home territory.
The Monarch butterfly, which has a 5-inch wingspan, has been spotted at Guilsfield, near Welshpool in Montgomeryshire.
Clive Faulkner of the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust said the Monarch normally hibernates during the winter in Mexico.
He said it was believed it had been blown off course while migrating from North America.
He described the butterfly's survival after its transatlantic journey as 'incredible'.
