Legal action prepared over E.coli

Wrexham Council has said it is preparing to take legal action following an outbreak of E.coli which affected four people earlier this year.

Officials would not confirm who could be prosecuted. The Llay Fish Bar, Llay, has been identified as the likely source of the infections in July.

The takeaway is now under new management.

Wrexham Council said a file was being prepared "with a view to the institution of legal proceedings".

Toni Slater, the council's public protection service manager for Wrexham Council, said: "The council cannot discuss any matters about this case which may prejudice any legal proceedings."

Among those affected by the outbreak was Karen Morrisroe-Clutton, 32, a librarian from Wrexham.

She was infected at the end of July when her son Oliver was 10 weeks old.

During her five-week coma her husband Paul played tapes of their baby.

She said she had "wanted to die", but after hearing Oliver's voice she decided: "I need to live", and has made a near-full recovery.

According to the National Public Health Service for Wales (NPHS), three other people in the Wrexham area suffered the same strain of the infection.
