The driver challenged the council after receiving a parking ticket

The driver, fined �60 for parking on double yellow lines at Llandudno in Conwy, had taken his case to the National Parking Adjudication Service.

Conwy council confirmed that had chosen to withdraw the ticket but said that no legal precedent had been set.

New tickets had now been printed, added a spokesman.

The driver told the Daily Post newspaper it was a "disgrace and an insult" to the Welsh language that the mistake had occurred.

After receiving the parking ticket the driver first appealed to the council because the yellow lines were too faded, but the council threw out his appeal.

He then appealed to the National Parking Adjudication Service (NPAS) after collecting case law evidence from the internet.

He told the newspaper the wording on the fixed penalty notice did not comply with Section 66 of the Road Traffic Act and there were errors in the Welsh translation.

The council said it withdrew from the case rather than lose it, therefore no legal precedent has been set.

"We are advised by our solicitor that it was a perfectly legitimate notice," said their spokesman.

"The matter was withdrawn due to some of the Welsh translation of the notice."

New parking tickets had now been printed with a different Welsh language translation, their spokesman added.

The NPAS said it could not comment on individual cases.
