Morrissey coup for tiny theatre
Neil Morrissey
Neil Morrissey will appear at the theatre on 30 October
Actor Neil Morrissey is to discuss his love of Carmarthenshire and interest in Dylan Thomas in a one-off show in one of the county's smallest venues.

The star who co-owns two pubs and a hotel in his adopted second home of Laugharne has accepted an invitation to appear at Ammanford's Miners' Theatre.

Manager Eleri Retallick contacted him on the off-chance he would agree to the question and answer session.

She said it was a big coup for the 250-seat theatre.

"I literally phoned up his agent and said there was a lot of interest in him in Carmarthenshire," said Ms Retallick.

"We've heard so much about him recently with him buying Hurst House Hotel, the Mariners and most recently Browns.

"He has become quite a prominent person in Carmarthenshire's cultural life.

"I was absolutely gobsmacked when he said yes.

"You send these letters off and you don't often get a positive reply so it's a real coup for ourselves."

Sell-out

During the show the Men Behaving Badly star will be interviewed by S4C presenter Angharad Mair with questions then thrown out to the audience.

"Basically he will talk about his career, his tips for any budding actor who wants to get into acting, why he loves Laugharne, why Dylan Thomas and why Carmarthenshire," added Ms Retallick.

Morrissey told BBC News Online last summer he first started visiting Wales as a student 20 years ago but had fallen in love with Laugharne where he now spends much of his time when not working.

In April this year he and business partner Matt Roberts paid 670,000 at auction to buy Browns Hotel in the town, famous as a haunt of the late poet Dylan Thomas.

It is his third business venture in Laugharne as the pair already owned a hotel and pub.

Ms Retallick said she was certain his appearance on 30 October at the theatre would be a sell-out.

"Tickets are already flying out," she added.
