Tributes to past farmers' leader
Myrddin Evans
Myrddin Evans served on many public bodies in Carmarthenshire
Tributes have been paid to Myrddin Evans, the longest serving president of the Farmers' Union of Wales, and among its most influential figures.

The retired dairy farmer from New Inn, near Pencader, Carmarthenshire, has died at the age of 85.

Mr Evans led the FUW between 1966 and 1984 and was awarded the OBE in 1977.

Current FUW president Gareth Vaughan said Mr Evans was "a hugely significant and influential person" who would be greatly missed by the industry.

Mr Vaughan said he was regarded as a flamboyant and passionate public speaker who was a well-known JP and a member of the National Eisteddfod's gorsedd of bards.

He added: "Myrddin was a hugely significant and influential person in the growth and development of the FUW and his many friends in the union, and throughout Wales, will greatly miss his wise and always forthright counsel."
