Film footage from the early 20th Century offering a glimpse of local life will be on show soon on the Big Screen.

Derwent village drowns as Ladybower is filled

The people at MACE (Media Archive for Central England) have put together a selection of six films about Derbyshire from their Moving Image Archive.

The compilation consists of:

• Newsreel footage including the Ashbourne Shrovetide game in 1929
  And soldiers using hydrotherapy treatments in Buxton, 1916.
• A 1966 film about the villages of Derwent and Ashopton which were lost during the construction of Ladybower Reservoir.
• Events in Derby to mark the 800th anniversary of the awarding of the market charter.
• 1962 promotional film for the Co-op's range of Halcyon paints, made in Derby.
• Peak Country – a 1964 film highlighting the attractions of the Peak District.
• A compilation of ATV newsclips, including Chris Tarrant at the Wirksworth up-hill beer barrel push and a world pub crawl record attempt at Swadlincote.

The MACE collection can be seen on the Big Screen from 11am and 5pm each weekday until 8th Feb. After that you'll be able to catch them as part of the rolling selection of local content.
