Carrie-Anne Moss

The Matrix Reloaded

Interviewed by Alana Lee

Before "The Matrix" came along, Carrie-Anne Moss was w-a-y down the Hollywood food chain (a recurring character in F/X: The Series - that's how low). Now, however, she's feted for her kick-ass performance as Trinity, and screen-grabbing roles in "Memento" and "Chocolat"...

How surprised were you by how "The Matrix" was received and the interest in it?

It was unbelievably awesome to see people respond to the first movie. It was very exciting, and the excitement goes on. You know, "The Matrix" is a deep film with deep ideas. It makes you really think. It asks you to think, and I think people want that. You don't often get that with action films.

You broke your leg didn't you? Tell us how that happened...

I broke my leg a week into training, but I'm good now. I broke my leg on a wire. We were in the first week of training and it was a huge physical challenge to pull off right off the bat. But because of the first movie, I came into this film a little gung-ho, really ready to do it, and then I got an obstacle given to me right in the very beginning. But I'm all for obstacles to overcome. I had to sit out for six to eight weeks but I came to work everyday and watched them train and did what I could.

How do you feel about this sequel?

I feel very emotional about it. I'm on the verge of tears! I'm very proud of it and I'm very excited for people to see it.

Why do you think the films are generating so much interest?

Because of the story. Because of the content. Because of the messages in the films, the meaning, the ideas, the thinking for yourself and not being controlled by something other than you, to have your own point of view, to choose to believe in yourself, to believe in something. I just think it goes so deep. I could go on and on about it forever!
