Jason Ford's debut movie New Town Original is notable for several reasons: it's the first movie to be set in Basildon, Essex; and it's probably the first ever movie to be helmed by a pub quiz DJ. The film itself - about a white-collar drone whose mundane existence is changed when he falls for the wrong girl - has been five years in the making, and it's a testament to the filmmaker and his producing partners that the self-financed movie is now getting a similarly self-funded release in the UK.
