Election 2008

I seek election as Deputy for a third term, to support policies which benefit everyone.

+  Policies for progress but also to conserve our heritage and environment

+  Policies to maintain prosperity and encourage new enterprises

+  Policies to keep wealth and investment here but fair to those less well off

Many people are worse off because of States decisions. Inflation has been too high: bad for business and for people.

Freezing personal income tax allowances has hit almost everybody. It means that those on lower incomes pay proportionately more tax. That is not right.

Changes are needed. The States must manage the economy sensibly, helping existing businesses, including the finance sector, yet encouraging diversity.

We must play our part on the global scene as a proud and independent island state and international finance centre. We can and should set a leading example, protecting the environment, reducing energy consumption and developing tidal power.

Our election system could be much better. The public should have a say on island-wide voting. My proposal is for ministers to face the electorate in two years time; this would allow challenge and change, yet aid continuity and accountability.

Born and brought up in Guernsey, I have been in politics for many years, eight years as a St Peter Port Deputy and on douzaines for longer.  For eight years I was a London Borough Councillor.  My wife and I have lived in Brock Road since 1999.

As a qualified accountant (FCCA), I recognise the skill and ability of Deputy Parkinson, whose views should be heeded.

I am keen to help the many newcomers to the States. 

I have been very heartened by all the people who have encouraged me to continue to speak out for what I believe in.
