Tracklisting1. Introduction Emo is an often derided and ridiculed genre, and usually somewhat unfairly. Throughout its life, both in and out of the limelight, it has produced a few classic albums and it is these that The Escape Fall clearly try and emulate with their take on the style. Structurally somewhat reminiscent of several albums, but specifically My Chemical Romance's 'Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge', 'Let's Hope They Hear This' wears its influences on its sleeve as it combines the emo-rock of bands like MCR and The Used with the pop-rock of Foo Fighters and Incubus. ![]() LT of The Escape Fall What really stands out most on the record is the songs, most of which feel like complete and well rounded musical productions and take the listener on an aural journey. While the album at times has a melancholy air the songs have a strong positive spirit based around notions of friendship and love, both of the platonic and non-platonic variety. This is something which I feel is a characteristic of the best examples of the genre and The Escape Fall have pulled off brilliantly. ![]() Sam of The Escape Fall The real highlight of the band's live sets has been the track 'This Ends Tonight' and it is equally anthemic on the record, though it does slightly suffer from the occasionally slightly murky production that runs through the record. That being said this remains the most accomplished piece of recording yet from local producer Scotty G, and contains, like the writing, enough polish for pop while keeping an element of the grit necessary for rock. ![]() Ben Wilson of The Escape Fall. The album's final track, 'Underworld', really highlights the band's talents mixing an ambitiously arranged melodic duet for its opening, which brings to the fore the bands use of backing vocals, with a driving second half that serves as a fine example of emo-rock. While the emo-rock style of The Escape Fall may not float everyone's musical boat it remains a good example of the genre to which this band have managed to add their own slant making it at once recognisable, while at the same time something a bit different. last updated: 14/10/2008 at 11:33 You are in: Guernsey > Unsigned Bands > CD Reviews > Let's Hope They Hear This - The Escape Fall |
