She recovered from the physical trauma within a few weeks, but the psychological damage has taken longer to heal.
Would she be tempting fate to jump once again from a plane? That's the question Lyndi Harding from Herefordshire has to answer as she contemplates returning to the sport that nearly killed her. ![]() Lyndi Harding after the accident Seven years ago, her main parachute failed to open. She deployed her back-up chute, but then the main parachute opened after all, and the two became entangled. After hitting the ground at between 40 and 70 miles an hour, no one could explain how Lyndi escaped with only concussion, severe bruising and a few broken ribs. Within a few weeks she'd learnt to walk again, and within a few months she was regaining the use of her short term memory. The psychological effects of the trauma were harder overcome. Lyndi suffered a major loss of confidence, and became timid and fearful in all aspects of life. Seven years on, she's learning to face up to her fears and to help bury the past, she does a sponsored tandem jump for the charity Winston's Wish, that helped her cope with a family bereavement. last updated: 09/10/2008 at 11:25 You are in: Hereford and Worcester > Video Nation > Feel the Fear |
