Leeds 2006 gives unsigned bands a fantastic opportunity to play one of the country's biggest music festivals. And with unprecedented interest in Yorkshire music, thanks to the rise of bands like Arctic Monkeys and The Kaiser Chiefs, it promises to be even bigger this year.

The stage was launched at the last year's festival with 35 local bands getting the opportunity to play. Festival headliners Black Rebel Motorcycle Club said the best thing about the festival was the Unsigned Stage and local bands such as I Like Trains, Your Vegas and This Et Al have since gone on to national acclaim following their appearances at the festival in August. BBC Raw Talent presenter Alan Raw says: "We're delighted to be involved once again in recommending bands for the stage. Mean Fiddler boss Melvyn Benn has already said that he expects the eyes of the UK music industry to be focused on the stage; such is the intense interest in Yorkshire music.
