Can't get to Lealholm? View some of Jan's paintings in the online gallery... Jan started painting in 1969 when she studied Art and Geography at the Northern Counties College, Newcastle upon Tyne, and spent the next fourteen years teaching on Tyneside and Teesside. Jan’s favourite medium for the past twelve years has been watercolour, and she’s specialised in painting landscapes of the local moors and coast around the village of Lealholm, where she has a gallery. The vast amount of Jan’s time is taken up running her gallery, making the various articles sold there (cushions, embroidery, Victorian beadwork) and painting the many commissions she receives from clients old and new. For a number of years Jan has dealt in Victorian watercolours, mainly scenes of the Northern coast and the Lake District, and last year contributed to the Lake Artists Society book, A Centenary Celebration. last updated: 09/06/2008 at 12:00 SEE ALSOYou are in: North Yorkshire > Entertainment > The Arts > Artists' Quarter > NY artist: Jan Haigh
