Kane has exhibited widely across the UK, and will be showing new landscape work in York at the Minster Fine Art Gallery and at Duggleby’s auction house in Scarborough in 2006. He is also working on a project to document ‘Castle Howard’ over a period of 2 years, which will result in an exhibition of paintings at Castle Howard. Artist's Statement “Landscape painting at the moment has lost its way. It is struggling to find a vision of its direction. It has been subjugated to a new media frenzy driven on by dealers, art collectors and young artists hoping to become art stars. There is no unifying intellectual perspective and framework to support landscape painting. However I believe this will change, thinking will rotate towards landscape painting as means of social and political expression. Artists will locate themselves within a tradition and history that offers expression of the sublime but also an expression of anger, reflection and deeper meaning.” “Landscape painting can still offer a fresh insight into issues that affect farmers, fishermen and communities across the country. It can say something about the human condition, about adversity and survival. Historians will look back in a 100 years time to review through painting the impact on society through an artist's perspective social and political upheaval.” |
