I have been painting all my life, in various mediums, but have now settled with silk painting. The work I do is always bright and for subject matter I usually, though not always, choose landscapes. These are loosely based on my surroundings, the lower dales. My style takes little notice of scale and perspective in order to create quirky rather than realistic scenes - have you ever seen flying sheep in the dales? As my training was in Graphic Design I veer more towards illustration than fine art. I like there to be a degree of humour in my work as art should make you smile as well as think. The countryside, as seen in my work is idealized, a countryside from my childhood where everything seemed perfect, even when it rained! It is a long way from the reality of modern rural life, but sometimes we need the escapism of imagination and wishful thinking. I work mainly to commission, with works in this country and abroad, through open exhibitions and from my home which doubles as a gallery space and studio. Visitors are always welcome, though it's best to ring first then I can put the kettle on! Clare Lindley |
