The If Path is the latest production by Oxford's own Butoh Dance Theatre group, Café Reason.

Company members set out to explore their performance space and its physical boundaries - which include gravity, structural stuff and their limitations of their own bodies and imaginations.

On stage, there are screens with familiar images of pathways, of various kinds - a shoreline, a woodland track, an open road.

The performers move along an imaginary corridor, finding chance encounters and alternative ways to go.

You'll have gathered this is not dance as we're most familiar with it in the West.

Butoh is an experimental form that began in Japan in the 60s, with its own approach to movement that is driven by imagination and the subconscious, with intriguing results.

Artistic director Jeannie Donald formed Café Reason after study in Japan and apparently, it's the only Butoh company based in Oxford.
