Friday's performance at the Pegasus Theatre featured six pieces of diverse and exciting work performed by skilled dancers. From the melancholic choreography Metamorphic Memory by Michelle Deussen and Lindsey Lamb, to the playful Place by Jane Connelly and Jenny Parrott's beautifully performed piece Might Be Catching, it soon becomes clear that Oxford's dance scene is dynamic and varied.

Catch Your Breath by Susan Crow is intelligent and flirtatious, and the dancers possess not only technical skill but feeling for the audience and stage presence. Bethany Elliot is especially charismatic and immediately wins the audience over as she interacts and communicates effortlessly - without words but with plenty of physical wit. Multi-talented Joe Philp both dances and later joins Julia Rayson in playing the clarinet while his colleagues perform.

Nicola Moses from Gelede Dance, the Pegasus Theatre's resident dance company, performed two pieces by Menelva Harry. In Mist, she draws us in with an intense choreography performed against the backdrop of footage of herself doing the very same piece.

The second piece from Gelede, A Work-In-Progress, uses martial arts technique to create a powerful and clever journey through movements that brings out Moses' extraordinary talent. Dario Lena's drum set adds nerve as he follows Moses' every move with much perception and sensitivity.

All in all, In The Mix 2004 offers an impressive line-up, and a unique opportunity to see so much of Oxford's dance talent gathered under one roof.
