Going
to see this production was always going to be an experience. I am
somewhat older than the target audience - I ceased to be a child
many years ago! However there was enough to keep my attention throughout
the performance.
Based
on a popular book by Greek author Eugene Trivizas, 'The Three Little
Wolves' is a clever inversion of the well-loved story. Using simple
physical theatre techniques, the wolves came to life in a very credible
way.
Special
mention must be made of Rachel Ford Pritchett who created 5 contrasting
animals - each with their own personality, character and way of
using the stage. She was also responsible for the effective costumes
for the company.
One
aspect of the production did slightly mar my enjoyment of the evening
and that was the use of heavy fake Italian accents for the Big Bad
Pig and the Mother Wolf. At times, I found it very difficult to
understand what they were trying to say.
The
use of the music of The Village people was inventive as was the
use of the set - which set the action very firmly in the pages of
a book.
It
was a shame that there were so few children in the audience on opening
night. Those who were there were clearly loving the show and participating
as vocally as they could manage.
If
you have young children (or are young at heart yourself) pop along
to the OFS this week and share the fun. You won't regret it.
