Wrong Way Pile-Up

Episode 4 of 6

After his dangerous driving causes a head-on crash, Tom arrives in ED along with his victim. A young horse rider is paralysed after a fall, but doctors struggle to find the cause.

A catastrophic dual carriageway collision brings two patients to Southmead Emergency Department: Tom, the driver who caused the crash, and Olli, the man whose van he hit. Tom, who is believed to have been driving under the influence of drugs and on the wrong side of the carriageway, arrives with devastating injuries to his leg.

Meanwhile, a young girl is brought to Resus after falling from her horse, unable to move or feel her legs. With her parents watching anxiously, a CT scan and then an MRI reveal no obvious physical cause for her symptoms. As the uncertainty deepens, the clinical challenge must be balanced with the emotional weight of caring for a young patient and her frightened family.
