Bizet's L’Arlésienne from Munich
Mark Forrest introduces an afternoon of great music, including performances from the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and chamber music from across Bavaria.
Mark Forrest presents an afternoon of exceptional music-making from Germany, featuring performances by the Munich Philharmonic alongside chamber music from the Feldafing and Goldmund Festivals.
The programme opens with Andrew Cornall arrangement of Shostakovich's theatrical suite from 'Moscow, Cheryomushki' performed by the Munich Philharmonic under Santtu-Matias Rouvali. The orchestra returns under Alain Altinoglu for Bizet's two popular L’Arlésienne Suites, followed by Wagner’s dramatic Overture to The Flying Duchman.
From the Feldafing Music Festival in Bavaria comes a richly melodic sextet by Dohnányi for the unusual combination of clarinet, horn, string trio and piano, while the Goldmund Festival is represented by the Goldmund Quartet, performing the second of Brahms’s three string quartets.
Also, pianist Richard Goode brings his distinctive insight and musicianship to Beethoven’s masterful late Piano Sonata in A-flat major.
