When working-class Tasha questions the non-platforming of a local politician, she is branded a bigot, suspended from her job, and frozen out. Meanwhile her 17-year-old daughter, Marie, has been wrestling with insecurities about her appearance and the unwelcome attentions of boys at school. Refuge comes in the form of a new identity as non-binary ‘Max’ and a middle-class friendship group steeped in the world of social justice politics. Each becomes uncomfortably embedded in communities that they know misrepresent the other. An elegiac play about the compromises of tribalism, the desperate search for common ground, and love across the divide. Mum.... Claire-Louise Cordwell Marie/Max......
