New voices and new sounds from the Asian Network. It’s Beant's first show on Asian Network Represents, and he’s putting the spotlight on the Best of British Panjabi music. Born and raised in Leamington Spa, Beant has grown up surrounded by Panjabi music. In this show, he takes us on a journey through some of the artists and tracks that have helped shape British Panjabi music across generations. From Diljit Dosanjh and Tru Skool to pioneering producer Kuljit Bhamra and his mother Mohinder Kaur Bhamra, Beant explores the artists who pushed Panjabi sounds into new spaces. He revisits daytime disco classics, folk anthems and the music that soundtracked generations of British South Asians. But British Panjabi music isn't just about the classics. Beant also dives into the UK's underground scene, exploring the influence of garage, jungle and house, and the events and communities keeping these sounds moving forward.
