Scotland grabbed a stunning 24-23 victory over Ireland's hurlers in a cliffhanging shinty-hurling international in Cork, to bring a series of three Irish successes to an end.

The winning point was finally scored by Kingussie's Zander Michie in a game where the Scots were 8-2 up at one stage but were pegged back to 14-14. A frantic encounter then progressed through 16-16, 19-19 and 23-23 until Michie's winner sent the Scottish contingent into raptures.

Scotland's three-point goals came from Calum McLay, Lewis Cameron, Iain Robinson and Innes Blackhall.

Michie's winner was his his sixth point of the night and made him Scotland's top scorer. Declan Brannan (2), Ruaridh Anderson, McLay, Robinson and Daniel MacVivar grabbed the other singles.

Earlier at the same venue, Scotland's women were overwhelmed 38-6 by Ireland's Camogie players. Scotland's top scorer was Megan Ralph, who grabbed a three-point goal as well as a single, while Lorna MacRae and Iona McCulloch both got singles.

Domestically, three men's shinty titles were decided. Newtonmore's reserves won North Division 1 with a 7-1 eclipse of Fort William, including a double from veteran Glen MacKintosh. Oban Camanachd's second string Lochside Rovers claimed the South Division 1 crown in similar fashion when Matt Rippon scored two in a 7-1 rout of Glasgow Mid Argyll.

Since both area league champions are reserve teams, there will be no promotion to the National Division, should that survive an imminent examination of league structure.

Lochaber won North Division 2 following a walkover against Lochcarron.
