Leicestershire release Cox, Mike and Wood

Leicestershire have released wicketkeeper-batter Ben Cox, all-rounder Ben Mike and seam bowler Sam Wood.

The departure of the trio follows the Foxes' relegation from Division One of the County Championship, although their fate remains in limbo as the club appeals against a points deduction.

Cox, 34, 28-year-old Mike, and Wood, 22, all played a part in Leicestershire's Division Two title winning campaign in 2025 which returned the club to the top flight after more than two decades away.

Former Worcestershire keeper Cox was the Foxes' second highest scorer in Division One in 2026, with 728 runs.

Leicestershire director of cricket Claude Henderson lauded Cox as "a fantastic professional" who played a part in "in some special moments" for East Midlands side.

Meanwhile, Mike featured 137 times across all competitions for Leicestershire across two spells, the second of which came after he had a stint with Yorkshire cut short.

Like Mike, who also came through Leicestershire's player pathway to earn a professional deal, seamer Wood moves on after a long association with the club.

Wood first got involved with the Foxes at the age of nine, and went on to sign his first professional deal with the club a decade later.

He last featured for Leicestershire in the T20 Blast in June before going on to join Nottinghamshire on a short-term loan to play in the One-Day Cup.
