Plymouth Argyle's Harvey White says his impressive goal at Blackpool was due to the confidence he is feeling.

The summer signing, 25, delicately controlled the ball on the right corner of the penalty area before spinning away from two defenders, gliding past a third and firing a left-footed strike low into the near-post corner.

It was the midfielder's second goal of the season as the Pilgrims' 4-2 win at Bloomfield Road moved them up to third in League One.

"I kind of took it out of the air and then just touched it on to my left foot and hit it," he told BBC Radio Devon of his goal.

"I did an interview a few weeks ago where I said I'm just changing my mindset on shooting and just trying to hit the target. I had a lot of chances today from outside the box where I've shot.

"First of all, I'm getting the licence to shoot, but also the confidence is flowing through me when the ball drops to the edge of the box."

The goal pleased head coach Tom Cleverley, who saw White score for the first time since joining from Stevenage in a 2-0 win over Bradford City last month.

"To pluck it out of the sky, swivel and then give the keeper the eyes and the clean strike at the near post. It was fitting with his performance today," he said.

Plymouth Argyle striker Bim Pepple is aiming to be recalled to the Canada squad, head coach Tom Cleverley has said.

The 23-year-old was called up for his country’s final squad before the World Cup in March.

But despite ending the season with 15 goals in 21 games, he did not make the final cut for the tournament.

People has scored three goals this season, including in each of Argyle's past two games, but he has not been selected in Jesse Marsch's squad for Canada's upcoming matches with Chile, Peru and the United States.

"I've been around international players a lot in my career and a lot of those guys in the Canada squad will be in top five European Leagues or the Championship," Cleverley said.

"Bim's behind the eight ball a little bit with that.

"So all he can do is absolutely maximise what he can do and that he scores as many goals as he can, as many assists, hold the ball up as well as he did last weekend, press as much as he is doing for us and let's see where that gets him.

"He got a call-up whilst being a League One player, an Argyle player, and one of his targets will be to do the same again this season."

Ronan Curtis says he has felt no ill effects from his summer knee surgery.

The 30-year-old Plymouth Argyle winger joined the club permanently from Port Vale in January and scored twice in 23 appearances in all competitions last season.

He has gone on to start all five of Argyle's League One matches this season as the Pilgrims have opened with two wins and two defeats.

"The knee's good," he told BBC South West.

"I got the surgery in the summer, it was something that I did last pre-season, had a slight meniscus tear but I could play through the pain just managing it through last season.

"But I managed to get it done this season, get the surgery and back to my fully fit best now.

"I have all faith in myself to come back stronger, fitter and much better.

"It was something that I needed to get done in the summer because the odd time it would swell up and taking too many tablets to get me through games and stuff like that, but I'm all fit and healthy now."

Gateshead have signed forward Freddie Issaka on loan from League One side Plymouth Argyle until January.

The 20-year-old holds the record as Argyle's youngest-ever first-team player after making his debut aged 15 years and 34 days on 31 August 2021.

He spent time on loan with Bristol Rovers in League One and made eight substitute appearances for the Pirates.

He then went on to join Truro City and made 14 appearances in the National League during a loan spell last season.

Plymouth Argyle attacker Caleb Watts should be aiming for at least 10 goals this season, according to boss Tom Cleverley.

The 24-year-old is returning from injury and scored for the first time this season in the 3-2 win at Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

Watts, who moved to Argyle from Devon rivals Exeter City last summer, scored seven times in 33 appearances last season.

"He's intense, he's aggressive, and he showed good game understanding and real good quality in the final action," Cleverley told BBC Radio Devon of the forward-thinking midfielder.

"His numbers are off the chart for an attacking midfielder, to be honest," he added.

"He should definitely be targeting double figures this year.

"If he stays fit I'm sure he'll get there."
