Saturday is Moving Day and a number of players are making the most of sunny, still conditions during the morning. Henrik Stenson picks up three shots in his first four holes before falling away
But not everyone is making hay and Wales' Rhys Davies, who won his maiden European Tour event in Morocco this season, is four over through 10 holes and finishes with a 79 for 14 over overall
Tiger Woods begins seven shots adrift of leader Graeme McDowell but instead of making immediate inroads, the world number one drops shots at the second and third to slip to six over
Tom Watson, the 1982 champion, made the cut on the number at seven over and has a short birdie putt on the last for a 69. He misses and cards 70 to edge to six over - not bad for a 60-year-old
The much-fancied Lee Westwood of England never gets going, carding three bogeys, a double-bogey and no birdies in a round of 76. The world number three will have to wait for his first major
Paul Casey never really recovers from making triple-bogey at the second - he cards a six-over-par 77, the same as Ian Poulter, as the much talked about English challenge fades
Phil Mickelson lit up Pebble Beach with a 66 on Friday but it's more of a grind on day three - he has to show off all his powers of recovery to card a 73 and finish the day seven shots off the lead
Ernie Els (right), a two-time US Open winner, churns out a one-over-par 72 and goes into the final day six off the lead. Ryo Ishikawa, the youngest in the field at 18, holds things together for a four-over 75
Woods makes three birdies in a row from the fourth before a bogey at eight. But he announces his return in emphatic fashion with five birdies coming home for a stunning 66 - he's only five shots off the lead
Gregory Havret of France puts together a fine round of 69, including four birdies, and his prize for finishing the day at level par will be a final-round pairing with three-time winner Woods
McDowell kicks off with two birdies and makes relatively serene progress before bogeys at 16 and 17. However, he still cards a level-par 71 to trail leader Dustin Johnson by three heading into the final day
Johnson, winner of the last two PGA Tour events at Pebble Beach, eagles the fourth and never looks back, finishing with a 66. Unerring from tee to green, the American will take some stopping on Sunday
