Sixth seed Venus Williams gets the action under way on day eight against Francesca Schiavone on Rod Laver Arena, and the American has won all five of their previous meetings
But it is Italian Schiavone who has the better of the early stages and she takes the first set as Venus fails to find any kind of form
Williams cannot find her best form, especially on serve, but still has too much for Schiavone and seals a 3-6 6-2 6-1 win to reach the last eight
Fourth seed Caroline Wozniacki loses the first set to Li Na and then requires treatment on a thigh injury in the second set
Li Na completes a 6-4 6-3 win over Wozniacki to join compatriot Jie Zheng in the last eight - the first time China has had two Grand Slam quarter-finalists
Britain's Andy Murray does his best to blend into the crowd on his day off as he prepares to face Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals
Fellow Briton Laura Robson needs just 36 minutes to beat Australian Belinda Woolcock 6-0 6-1 in the first round of the girls' singles
Novak Djokovic gets plenty of Serbian support for his fourth-round match against Lukasz Kubot on Hisense Arena
Former champion Djokovic encounters only the occasional difficult moment on his way to a 6-1 6-2 7-5 and a place in the last eight
Spain's Fernando Verdasco hopes to recapture the form he showed last year when he reached the semi-finals as he takes on Nikolay Davydenko in the last 16
Davydenko has the better of things on Rod Laver Arena but neither man can find their best form
Verdasco fights back from two sets down to take the match into a decider before Davydenko eventually comes through 6-2 7-5 4-6 6-7 6-3
Davydenko will play the winner of the late match between Lleyton Hewitt and Roger Federer - and despite the support of his home crowd, the Australian is completely outclassed in the first two sets
Hewitt's wife, former Home and Away actress Bec Cartwright (top centre) can hardly watch as the former world number one fails to engineer a single break points in the first two sets
Federer is broken back in the third set but immediately breaks again before sealing a 6-2 6-3 6-4 win in less than two hours
