It has been another week of high drama as the Leveson Inquiry unfolds. James Murdoch resigned as executive chairman of News International. And the Metropolitan Police said it had loaned Rebekah Brooks a retired horse. Inside the hearings themselves, the focus has been on the relationship between press and police.

The senior Met officer Sue Akers told the hearings that the the aim of the police's inquiry into phone hacking at News Intenational hadnever been to "threaten the existence of the Sun."

But she added that emails had revealed a "network of corrupted officials" which resulted in regular payments "amounting to thousands of pounds".
