The funding of the NHS is once more in the headlines, following the publication of a leaked report from the consultancy firm McKinsey and Company telling the government that the NHS in England needs to 10% per cent of its staff over the next five years to achieve its target for savings.

The government has rejected the advice but, interviewed on today's programme, Niall Dickson of the King's Fund and Carl Emmerson from the Institute of Fiscal Studies agreed that Britain's main political parties face hard choices about the funding of the NHS.

And the morning's programme has seen an ongoing debate about the micro-blogging site Twitter. John initially stated that "there are some things that should be dismissed out of hand". But later in the programme he sent his first (and possibly only) Tweet - Twitter message - reading: "Why shd everyone try everything? Some (like underwater ironing) too daft to try. Stop counting letters. Get a life instead."

Later still, though, he spoke to the author and comedian David Baddiel about the joy of Twitter .
