The Director of the CIA Leon Panetta has confirmed that all seven of the people killed in Afghanistan on Wednesday worked for the CIA. The Taliban have said that one of its fighters had infiltrated the Afghan army to carry out the attack. Former CIA operative Bob Baer and Kabul correspondent Peter Greste discuss what it will mean for intelligence operations in the country.

2009 has not been a good year for politicians. Many of them are likely to face the wrath of their electors over their expense claims when they go out canvassing for votes at the forthcoming general election. But amid the controversy, guest editor Robert Wyatt believes the work of honest, industrious MPs is going largely unreported. Political correspondent Norman Smith discussed the issue with the former MP Tony Benn and Chris Moncrieff, who has worked in the Westminster lobby for the Press Association for more than 40 years.

It has not been a good year for democracy in the small Central American country of Honduras. One of the great political sagas of 2009 concerned the fate of elected president, Manuel Zelaya, who was ousted in a coup. Alcohol is creating an "unsustainable burden" on the NHS according to a report from the NHS confederation and the Royal College of physicians. The managers and doctors say that treating alcohol related conditions in England now costs over £2.7bn a year and they warn the increasing costs could cripple NHS hospitals. NHS Confederation director of policy Nigel Edwards discusses the scale of the problem.
