Every year publishers receive thousands of manuscripts sent in on-spec from unknown writers hoping to be plucked from obscurity to become professional authors. The vast majority are rejected but unknown novelist Stephen Kelman, author of Pigeon English, received offers from 12 leading publishers.
The book tells the story of an innocent young boy living on a rough London estate who finds joy and friends amidst violence and crime.
