The shadow chancellor George Osborne says that says the Conservatives will be "tougher than Margaret Thatcher" when it comes to tackling Britain's budget deficit.
He told Today presenter James Naughtie that whoever wins the government will have to deal with the debt problem, which he described as "the principle threat now to the British recovery" and that a Conservative government would "try an eliminate the substantial part" of the structural deficit, which he estimated at between £90-100bn, during the lifetime of the next parliament.
