A review of climate change research by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is to be carried in an effort to restore the organisation's credibility after it published errors, including most famously the suggestion that the Himalayan glaciers might be gone by 2035. The world's leading science academies, including Britain's Royal Society, will be involved in the new panel, based at the UN in New York.

The British Society's Lord Rees defended climate change research, "uncontroversial evidence is enough to motivate some concern."

He added that press coverage of concerns over the reliability and credibility of climate change evidence should not be seen "out of proportion."
