The British National Party was yesterday banned from recruiting new members after a court ruled its constitution was illegal.

In a landmark ruling, Judge Paul Collins issued an injunction against the far-right group ordering it to comply with equality laws.

BNP leader Nick Griffin comments on how the ruling will affect the party.

Mr Griffin explained that the party "still had the principle of primarily protecting the indigenous people of Britain" but that "you no longer had to believe that" to be a member of the party.

He told Today presenter Sarah Montague that the BNP "absolutely" accepted members from ethnic minority backgrounds, adding that is was "absolutely so" that the changes to the party's constitution had not altered the purpose to the BNP.
