Gordon Brown is today unveiling the five main policy pledges on which Labour will fight the forthcoming election campaign. They include promises on the economy, public services, and immigration. The pledges are to be launched by teams of Cabinet ministers across the country.

Douglas Alexander, Labour's general election coordinator, said the party was trying to be clear with voters about the policy choices it was making.

He told the programme: "We've already set out our spending plans in detail for 2010 and this is setting out our priorities for 2011/12, 2012/13 and looking forward.

"We've been very clear that we do want to put specific support into frontline NHS services, into protecting police numbers, into protecting the schools budget."
