A former chairman of the Conservative Party has said the constituency boundaries in the election, which favour Labour, mean the vote is "simply not fair".
Speaking to Today presenter John Humphrys, Lord Patten said that there could be "big constitutional problems" if Gordon Brown was re-elected with the largest number of seats on a smaller popular vote than the Conservatives.
"Ideally we would start of with a level playing field," he said.
