The Lib Dems' Energy spokesman, Simon Hughes, has acknowledged that his party and the Conservatives are not natural allies. Interviewed on the Today programme, he added that the party would not sell-out over any deal with David Cameron.

Interviewed by Today presenter Evan Davis, Mr Hughes added that the Lib Dems remained "a radical party to its DNA is not going to stop being a radical party just because we have the best opportunity in 35 years of influencing and implementing what we believe in."
