The Museum of London will open its new Galleries of Modern London today to the public, featuring actor Sir Michael Caine as an iconic Londoner.

"You can be any culture you like as long as you're a Londoner, that's what you have to become," Sir Michael told Today presenter Evan Davis.

"Immigrants who come here will become Londoners and one day they and their children will be proud to be Londoners."

Sir Michael commented on his links to the Conservative party's national service policy, "it's been running for ages and I went and saw the people back in Elephant and Castle, back where I came from, and that's why he got my support.

"The great thing about a coalition is that no-body can do anything extreme to us," he expressed.

"I said to Tony Blair, I voted for Tony Blair, I said you can't tax people who have enough money for airfare," he reflected, "tax has to be economic not become emotional".
