Police say "intensive and systematic" searches have been taking place through the night around Rothbury in Northumberland in the hunt for the suspected gunman Raoul Moat.

Moat has been on the run since allegedly killing a man and wounding his former girlfriend and a police officer in separate incidents during the weekend.
