Around 100 babies a year are dying unnecessarily in the UK because they are born outside working hours, according to a study by researchers at Cambridge University.

Their study of infant deaths in Scotland found babies born outside the hours of 9am to 5pm on a Monday to Friday were more at risk of dying.

Professor Gordon Smith, who led the research and Dr Patrick O'Brien, of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, discuss what can be done to solve the problem.
