Scotland's First Minister, Alex Salmond, has rejected suggestions that BP lobbied his government before the release of the only person convicted of the Lockerbie bombing.

Mr Salmond told Today presenter Evan Davis that the decision to release Abdel Baset al-Megrahi on compassionate grounds was "taken in good faith".

Senators in the United States have told Prime Minister David Cameron that a full investigation into Megrahi's release is still needed.

Megrahi was convicted of the 1988 bombing of a PanAm jet over Lockerbie in Scotland that killed 270 people, most of them American. The Scottish government released him last August, after it was revealed he had terminal cancer.
