More than 90,000 leaked US military records have been published on the website Wikileaks, reportedly revealing hidden details of the Afghanistan war.

Three major news publications which have been shown the documents say they include unreported killings of Afghan civilians.

Colonel Richard Kemp, a former British commander in Afghanistan, warned that the leaks could be "potentially damaging to operational security".

"In many ways it is not good news that this information has been published," he said.

Colonel Stuart Tootal, who led the first battle group to be sent to Helmand Province in 2006, said the leak was "effectively old news", but was also concerned that the vast amount of data would allow access to "tactical information".
