US combat troops are on track to leave Iraq by the end the month, but can the country maintain stability without their support?

Speaking to Today presenter Evan Davis, US Congressman Adam Smith admitted that the withdrawal was a "risk", but that Iraq would never "stand up on its own" unless the US left.

"At some point you have to make the hand-off," he said.
