Businessman Asil Nadir is returning to the UK to face fraud charges relating to the collapse of his Polly Peck business empire.

Speaking from an airport in Turkey as he prepared to board a flight back to Britain, Mr Nadir said he had decided to return because "the atmosphere is now correct for this injustice to be put to bed."

He denied that he had struck a deal with the UK authorities to secure his return.

"There is no deal. There is only one deal and that deal is that I am hoping I will see for the first time some justice," he said.

He told James Naughtie he had not been a fugitive from justice and was undaunted by the prospect of attempting to clear his name.

"Innocent people never have fears when they go to face injustice," he said.
