MPs have warned that the review of Britain's defence is being rushed through and could harm the UK's ability to respond to military threats.

Speaking on the programme Robert Fox, defence correspondent at the Evening Standard, said that there had been a "lack of public debate" about defence issues and that the review should focus on one question: "Where does Britain lie in the world?"

He added that he feared the review would be "a massive cost-cutting exercise" which could see 30 to 40,000 defence personnel made redundant.

Pressed on what cuts should be made in the review, Rear Admiral Chris Parry said that the role of the RAF's Tornado aircraft and the presence of UK forces in Germany should both be examined.
