Business Secretary Vince Cable has defended his pro-market credentials following attacks on a speech criticising corporate behaviour he is to give later.

In the speech later today to the Liberal Democrat conference, he is expected to outline plans to shine a light on what he calls the murky world of corporate behaviour.

He told Today presenter Justin Webb that he was committed to a private sector led economic recovery but urged businesses to start "thinking long-term".

And on the subject of the proposed cap to UK immigration, he said he was "optimistic" that the measures would "operate flexibly" to ensure businesses could recruit the people they needed.
