From April, employers will no longer be able to force people to retire at the age of 65.

Employment relations minister Ed Davey told Today presenter Sarah Montague that the move "shouldn't be the problem that some people suggest".

"The evidence that productivity and performance declines after 65 is just not there," he said.

The move "will boost the number of jobs in our economy," he argued, and so help tackle youth unemployment.
