US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has said he is confident that President Obama's budget will pass the legislature, and put the US economy on a road to a sustainable deficit.

In a wide ranging interview with Today presenter Evan Davis, he praised Chancellor George Osborne for his swift action on the budget but criticised those in the previous government who encouraged "light touch" regulation, which he said was a "deeply costly strategy".
