Mohamed Ahmed Noor used to own an internet cafe in Camden, London. Now, after being asked by the Somali president, he is the Mayor of Mogadishu, one of the most dangerous countries in the world.

"I have seen how Mogadishu suffered as a city... I thought that I may change something," he told reporter Zubeida Malik. His greatest achievement so far, he says, is to light the city.

He is in the UK to persuade Somalis living here to donate money to the city. "I believe that Somalis, wherever they are, they love their country and they love their city," he said.

But he is also critical of the way the international community has handled the problem of piracy off the coast of the country arguing that it is not possible to tackle the problem from the sea.

"The cost of a month of one warship can put maybe 50 or 60 Somali marine corps. That would be more effective and efficient," he says.
