Posh people should be protected from persecution, according to playwright Julian Fellowes.

"There are now hate crimes that can be committed against black people, against gay people, there are all sorts of protected minorities" says columnist James Delingpole.

"But it seems to me that toffs are the one minority against which there is a kind of open season still."

But Owen Jones, author of Chavs: The Demonization of the Working Classes, said that Britain's ruling class were not exactly an "oppressed minority".

"The real debate should be that these people are too powerful, they are too privileged. We should start having a debate about how we have a more representative establishment."
